Why do security jobs pay so little?

Security jobs seems to pay less than fast food jobs in some cases. unarmed i can understand, sitting at a desk not doing much at all. But how can it pay less than flipping burgers? On the other hand If your security position requires you to carry a firearm doing a job that's risky why are you getting paid 14 an hour sometimes less? Many people from the outside looking in see people of this industry and assume they make great money because they deliver money for a living. Well my research speaking to some anonymously, I'm told they make hardly any money barley able to maintain bills. The company hire young at low wages. The ratio of people leaving are high because you can't survive at the wage you earn. The people who's been there for years get screwed by cutting hours. My advice If you want to become a police officer, go to college for criminal justice degree . Don't go the route of security unless you have little to no bills to pay.
